E-Text Links

Electronic books or texts (E-books/E-texts) are a great new way to access information from home, when the library is closed, or when you need some quick facts but are unable to get a print copy. You can browse full-text documents, journals, and books at your convenience. The full-text searching on some of the sites allows you to do keyword searches of the entire book! Try out some of these sites and be on the cutting edge of reading technology!

netLibrary - Search a comprehensive collection of over 6,000 electronic books (eBooks) to browse for 15 minutes in the library, "check out" for 24 hours, or download to a home computer. This collection includes many computer books, Complete Idiot's Guides, and much more. To check out ebooks, you must create a user account by following these steps:

Click "Create an Account"
Enter your user name and e-mail address (for hold notifications)
Click "Submit"

American Verse Project - An electronic archive of American poetry prior to 1920.
Bibliomania - Free World Literature online with more than 800 Classic Texts. Also has study guides, author biographies, and book summaries.
The Complete Works of William Shakespeare - View the full text of Shakespeare's comedies, tragedies, histories, and poetry.
Electronic Text Center (Univ. of Virginia) - 1,600 publicly-available e-books including classic British and American fiction, major authors, children's literature, the Bible, Shakespeare, American history, African-American documents, and much more. View the text via the web or download to use with Palm Pilot or MS Reader.

Internet Public Library's Online Text Links - The IPL Online Texts Collection contains over 16,000 titles that can be browsed by author, by title, or by Dewey Decimal Classification. The IPL links to other etext projects. Some titles may require downloading.
Making of America (Univ. of Michigan and Cornell Univ.) - Primary sources of books, pamphlets, and journals concerning American social history from the 19th and early 20th centuries.
Perseus Digital Library (Tufts Univ.) - A collection of ancient Greek and Roman texts as well as papyri, Renaissance, and others. This site integrates images, maps, dictionaries and other tools to compliment the primary texts.
Poets' Corner - An anthology of poetry and poets with title/first line and subject indicies.
Project Gutenberg - The original etext site, started in 1971! This project provides plain text versions of Public Domain texts, including literature and basic reference/research materials, for you to download. Look up quotations in the actual full text of a work.
