Bob Halloran, author of Irish Thunder will visit to share some stories about his writing process for Irish Thunder, and some of his favorite stories about Micky Ward, his career and family. A book-signing will follow the talk - UMass Lowell Downtown Bookstore will have copies available on site for purchase.
Bob Halloran is the weekend news and sports anchor at Channel 5, WCVB-TV in Boston . He began his career on Cape Cod, before spending five years at WPRI-TV in Providence , and three more years as a sports anchor/reporter at FOX-25 in Boston . He spent three years as an anchor and columnist for ESPN in Bristol , Connecticut before returning to Boston in January of 2003 to assume his current role at Channel 5. He has also written four books, including "Irish Thunder: The Hard Life and Times of Micky Ward," which was used to write the screenplay, "The Fighter". All proceeds from his book, "The Fellowship of the No Longer Miserable" goes to the Jimmy Fund. He's just finished a book called "Impact Statement" related to the Whitey Bulger trial which is scheduled for release in November.
